Paul Richardson of Glass Art Work specialises in the repair of stained glass windows, Paul has been making stained glass panels and lamps using either lead came or copper foil for over 15 years. So who better to repair them than someone who knows how they are put together.
Here is a small sample of Paul’s work.

Paul has developed an in-situ technique for repairing broken glass pieces that does not involve levering the lead leaf over to replace the glass. This old technique leaves the lead badly disfigured. The technique developed by Paul involves cutting off the face of the lead to expose the recess, new glass is cut and cemented in. The lead is replaced using liquid metal to re-weld the lead and the joints re-soldered, after cementing and cleaning it is difficult to tell where the glass was originally broken.

Even old and unsightly folded repairs can be made to look original again. The glass will be carefully matched to the original, sometimes a sample will have to be sent away to be identified, but mostly it will be sourced locally.

WORK UNDERTAKEN:

In-situ repairs to leaded windows.
From 1 break to 50 they can all be repaired.

Repairs to copper foil panels.
These panels must be removed to a workbench for repair.

Tiffany style lamps repaired.
Again these need a work shop to repair them.

Small panels removed for repair.
If the panel is small, say for a panel door. It is best to remove it to the workshop where it can be dismantled and re-built.

Small panels totally re-leaded.
Sometimes the damage is so severe that the panel requires a total rebuild.
